New Coach Pitch Division Announced For Players 7-and-Up

After working with the town and health officials, we are thrilled to announce that we will begin Little League for all players that are 7 and older starting this weekend.

In working with the town to make our younger divisions safer for our players and coaches, we are moving to a Coach Pitch division this year. This division will allow players to develop hitting and fielding skills, play a faster paced game to keep their interest, and minimize the risk of exposure to Covid-19.

Our plan is to play on Mondays and Fridays and have an occasional game on Saturday night under the lights. The season will run through August 18.

Over the next several days, coaches will reach out to you to let you know of practice schedules. We will also send out the town guidelines for this year to reduce the spread of Covid-19. The town and Health Department are continuing to modify these rules and we will send updates, but we are asking parents to respect the rules to ensure a successful season.

Refunds – Available until June 26

If your child is unable to play this season, we ask that you submit a Refund Request on our website (or direct link here) by Friday night, 6/26, so we can finalize the teams and order uniforms. You will have the option for a full refund, roll a credit over to next year or make a donation to the league.

We are very confident that this will be a fun year for your child and can’t wait to see her/him on the ball field!

Respectfully,

Josh Carroll

President, Wallingford Little League

2020 Season Canceled For Players Ages 4-6

It is with great regret that I announce that the town has recommended that Wallingford Little League cancel our season for all players under 7 years old. While we really wanted to offer a season for these players, we agree with their recommendation.

We had held out hope for a season for this age group, but the concerns remained. Unfortunately, the younger age groups are the most difficult to keep separated and are least likely to own their own equipment.

Next week, we will begin to automatically issue full refunds to you. If you would rather roll the refund over to have a credit for the 2021 season, please log on to our website and click the Refund button or visit here.

We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Sincerely,

Joshua Carroll

Wallingford Little League 2020 Season Update

Update & Safety Guidelines From Wallingford Little League President Joshua Carroll

Gov. Ned Lamont recently announced the timeline and guidelines to resume playing Little League and other youth sports. Since then, our board has been working with the Wallingford Health Department and other town officials to finalize the guidelines so that we can safely return to playing baseball. I am happy to say that the town guidelines have been released and our older divisions will begin to PLAY BALL – starting on June 20.

SAFETY

Wallingford Little League has always tried to put the safety of our players, coaches and umpires above all. Obviously, this year we will implement even more procedures and protocols to make our community even safer. To be completely successful, we will need everyone’s help and cooperation.

A copy of the town guidelines can be found here. Please note that these guidelines will likely change over the course of the season – perhaps even before the actual games begin - based on recommendations from the state and the CDC. Over the next several days, our division commissioners will be talking to coaches about how to best implement these guidelines for their teams.

In addition to the town guidelines, parents will need to conduct a Self-Assessment Questionnaire for players before every practice and game.

RETURNING TO PLAY

Starting next Saturday, June 20, our majors and AAA divisions will be allowed to begin practices.

The Majors division will have a modified regular season and will play on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting on July 6 and will play approximately 10 regular-season games plus a playoff.

Our AAA division will also have a modified regular season and will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will play about 8 games plus a playoff.

We have purposely left weekends open for both divisions for family time.

Because so many of our players also play football for the Vikings, we intend to complete our season on August 10 so that players will be able to play both sports if they choose.

We are holding off on making announcements for our younger divisions as we work with the town to get final approval and timelines.

REFUNDS

All refunds for Majors and AAA players will need to be submitted by Wednesday, June 17, as we need to finalize the teams and order uniforms. You can request a full refund, apply the credit to the 2021 season or make a donation to the league (which we appreciate!).

Refunds for younger divisions should be submitted by June 24. Hopefully we will have more information at that point for those divisions.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to the league via email at WallingfordLittleLeague@gmail.com.

I can't wait to see everyone on the field this season.
